Can You Make This?

We often get requests to reproduce furniture or millwork pieces based on reference images. Sometimes it’s a photo from a big-box site, sometimes it’s a vintage piece that’s no longer available. And yes, we can build something inspired by what you’ve found.

That said, we have a few guidelines we like to share so that everyone’s on the same page.

Send Us The Reference Image If

  • You love the look, but want custom dimensions to fit your space

  • You want to upgrade the materials—no more mystery wood or wobbly legs

  • You’d like to add functionality—think extra drawers, a hidden cord cutout, or soft-close everything

  • The original is no longer available, and you want something in that style, built to last

  • You’re using the photo as inspiration, and you’re open to a version that’s made your way

A Note on Expectations

We use reference images as a starting point, not a blueprint. Your piece will be designed with your dimensions, materials, and functional needs in mind. What you’ll receive is a custom version made for you, not a reproduction of someone else’s design.

We build everything with attention to detail and craftsmanship that’s meant to last. That’s a different approach than mass-produced furniture. And we think it’s a better one.

Why Custom Costs More

(Even if it looks the same)

Sometimes people send us a reference image and are surprised when the quote comes back higher than the original retail price. And that makes sense on the surface: the piece looks simple. So why the jump?

Here’s the thing: when we build something custom, we’re building it for the first time. That means we’re engineering it from scratch: sourcing the right materials, planning joinery, working out construction details, and spending real time in the shop to bring it all together. There’s no assembly line here. It’s one piece, built carefully, start to finish.

The original version? That was likely mass-produced, hundreds of thousands at a time, using automated processes, cheaper materials, and fast labor. Every step is optimized for speed and savings. It’s a well-oiled machine (literally).

So if you’ve found a retail version that meets your needs, we’ll always encourage you to go for it. Seriously. We can’t beat that price, and we won’t pretend to.

But if you want something better built, made to your specs, in a material you’ll still love ten years from now, something made for you, then we’d be honoured to build it.
